Building a more Representative justice system—from the inside out.

Prosecutors possess formidable powers to carry out justice.  They decide whom to prosecute, what to charge, whether to recommend freedom or incarceration, bargain for a plea, or dismiss a case.

By diversifying the field of public prosecution, we promote a more equitable criminal justice system. Communities will see that there are people who look like them and represent their interests in court, seeking justice on their behalf.

Bar Exam Prep Scholarships

The SCWLF awards $5,000 scholarships to law students who embody Sarita’s spirit and have committed to careers as public prosecutors. For these future prosecutors, the Scholarship covers the cost of the bar application and preparation. The Scholarship program also offers a $5,000 incentive for scholarship recipients who secure employment as public prosecutors.

The Black Women Prosecutor Project

In partnership with the Black Prosecutors Association

The Black Women Prosecutors Project aims to foster a supportive and empowering community for Black women prosecutors.

Our free programs provide a platform for Black women prosecutors nationwide to come together, learn from one another, and forge bonds, ensuring they never feel alone in their journey for justice.

“I recognize that being a prosecutor entails more than just securing convictions; it requires a steadfast commitment to fairness, integrity, and the protection of individual rights.”

More than 1% Initiative

Powered by the Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative and the Urban Institute

Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative and the Urban Institute selected the Sarita & Claire Wright Lucas Foundation as one of 30 organizations nationwide to participate in the Catalyst Grant Program.

Only about 1% of prosecutors are Black women. The Catalyst Grant enabled us to begin exploring and identifying the causes and solutions to this major racial and gender inequity in the criminal justice system.
